Breed Profile: The Himalayan has a stocky body, long hair and sweet temperament of the Persian, but the pointed pattern of a Siamese. The Persian and Siamese were bred together in the 1930s when breeders wanted to blend the body of a Persian with the markings of the Siamese.
Himalayans are sweet, gentle cats that love to play. Their coats are long and beautiful.
In some associations such as the CFA, Himalayans are considered part of the Persian breed but in Britain, the Himalayan is known as the Colourpoint Longhair.
The Himalayan is recognized in all of the major cat registries.
